Blessed

If you’re active at all on social media, you’ve probably seen it…#blessed. It seems everyone is #blessed these days, or at least that’s what they want us to think. One good thing happens and they post about it and follow it with #blessed!

It got me thinking…what if we started looking at our valleys and up at the mountains we need to climb as blessings? Like mine would be “I’m a medical zebra and I got out of bed today #blessed”. I could even take it a step further, “I’m a complicated medical zebra, in a lot of pain, fighting bad fatigue, and I got out of bed today #blessed.”

I truly think that we overuse the hashtag of blessed. We try to make our lives look so perfect on social media and want everyone to think that we have it all together, but what if we just were real with each other? Why do we have to be so fake?

I’m not saying that everyone who uses that hashtag isn’t blessed. Don’t read this wrong. I’m just saying that I think we over use it and it has lost it’s true meaning.

According to the Oxford Dictionary blessed means “made holy; consecrated; endowed with divine favor and protection; bringing pleasure or relief as a welcome contrast to what one has previously experienced”. Kinda makes ya think we’ve been using it wrong all along, doesn’t it?

A Google search for the real meaning of the word blessed reveals this from AI “The word "blessed" has both general and religious meanings, but the core idea relates to happiness, good fortune, and divine favor. In a religious context, particularly Christianity, "blessed" (makarios in Greek) describes a state of deep, spiritual happiness and fulfillment found in God's favor, redemption, and alignment with His will, which can even come through hardship. Generally, it means being fortunate, content, or enjoying pleasure”.

So, imagine how life changing things would be if we started looking at our valleys, our hardship, as our blessings and posting those with #blessed! We could start a whole new trend!!
